I admit it. I am totally the girl that dishes out advice, but only sometimes practice it. Well, when it comes to jewelry, I’m totally the same. I’ve been known to wear my sterling and gold vermeil during house renovations, mountain biking the Colorado trail, or making new jewelry. Maybe that’s why – because I can make another one for myself! No, it’s more just the habit of wearing my jewelry all the time. Actually, I do remember to remove my rings, but I wear my Mini Mountain necklace everywhere. Even during yoga, when I bend into a downward dog, and it kind of just gets stuck on my chin. Yup, I keep it on.
But, you should remove your jewelry when working out! Or doing heavy house renovations, or climbing rocks. You want your mountain jewelry to last for years to come, not months! With a little care and attention, your favorite mountain rings will adorn your fingers, and your jewelry will sparkle with the rest of your outfit.
The Big Three

Chemicals are getting a bad rap these days. And for good reason – they aren’t good for us! Guess what? Your jewelry doesn’t like them either! Try your best to keep your jewelry away from harsh chemicals, cleaners, lotions and perfumes that could harm them.

Even jewelry needs a night off. Remember to remove your mountain jewelry before hitting the sack at night. Your necklaces won’t be tangled, and your rings won’t be bathing in your skin’s fragrant oils.

Ok I admit it. I’ve worked out with my mountain jewelry on. But, for best practice, if you’re lifting weights, or grabbing anything metal and applying pressure to your hands – remove your rings BEFORE you pump iron. It will help keep your rings ding free and shiny!
Caring for Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is a versatile metal, and so is caring for it.
To clean, use warm, soapy water. You can also use a sterling silver specific cleaner, and follow the instructions provided.
To restore a high shine, simply use a polishing cloth the rub around the ring. I go in a uniform direction, and repeat a few times.
If you’re having too much fun in the hot springs and forget to remove your sterling silver, don’t fret. While the sulfur will cause your rings to patina, it is easily removed with sterling cleaner, or a quick rub of a polishing cloth. If your jewelry has a brush finish, avoid the polish cloth, as it will make it shiny!
Did you know all metal tarnishes! Even sterling silver. Think grandma’s old silverware. Again, polishing cloths or sterling silver cleaner work great to restore the natural metal.
Caring for Gold Vermeil
An affordable option to solid gold, our vermeil plated jewelry can last, with great care.
Remove while applying lotions, sunscreens, perfume, or before cleaning with harsh chemicals (including bleach).
Clean with warm soap and water, avoiding sterling silver cleansers.
Chlorine can discolor and even damage your gold vermeil pieces, so be sure to take them off before plunging into the pool or hotub.
Did you know all metal tarnishes! Gold vermeil will tarnish over time. You can VERY GENTLY rub a baking soda paste around and over the jewelry to remove dark spots and restore a yellow color. I repeat: VERY GENTLY!
