If you’re like me, every once in a while, you fall asleep without taking your makeup off, brushing your teeth, or removing your jewelry. I know, terrible. But once in a blue moon, it does happen!
Here are some handy tips for keeping your jewelry beautiful for years to come. With a little care and attention, our favorite mountain rings will adorn our fingers, and our jewelry will sparkle with the rest of our outfit.
CARE FOR SILVER
To clean, use warm, soapy water. You can also use a sterling silver specific cleaner, and follow the instructions provided.
To restore a high shine, simply use a polishing cloth the rub around the ring. I go in a uniform direction, and repeat a few times.
If you’re having too much fun in the hot springs and forget to remove your sterling silver, don’t fret. While the sulfur will cause your rings to patina, it is easily removed with sterling cleaner, or a quick rub of a polishing cloth. If your jewelry has a brush finish, avoid the polish cloth, as it will make it shiny!
Did you know all metal tarnishes! Even sterling silver. Think grandma’s old silverware. Again, polishing cloths or sterling silver cleaner work great to restore the natural metal.
CARE FOR GOLD VERMEIL
Remove while applying lotions, sunscreens, perfume, or before cleaning with harsh chemicals (including bleach).
Clean with warm soap and water, avoiding sterling silver cleansers.
Chlorine can discolor and even damage your gold vermeil pieces, so be sure to take them off before plunging into the pool or hotub.
Did you know all metal tarnishes! Gold vermeil will tarnish over time. You can VERY GENTLY rub a baking soda paste around and over the jewelry to remove dark spots and restore a yellow color. I repeat: VERY GENTLY!
